I tend to agree with George. I just laced some NOS Nisi tubular rims to a pair old Normany high flange hubs and reused the original Robergel spokes with the brass hex nipples. My Raleigh Carlton will probably hanging on the wall most of the time but will occassionally get use. They came out very nice. I made sure that I inserted the spokes in the same relative position and direction as on the previous build as well as re locating them same on each side they were. Whether that makes a difference, well, it sounds good on paper. So far so good. As far as whether you should do this....ya takes yer chances.

George,

Clearly it is your bike, and you should be as anal as you want to be. In the past year I have built two sets of wheels both with used hubs, one with used rims, and NOS Robergel Trois Etoiles spokes that I got from Bicycle Classics; and one set with used hubs, new rims and DT spokes. Some on the list later warned me that vintage spokes were not as good as modern ones, but I have had no trouble. I have heard people say that used spokes can be re-used, but instinct is to go with new, even if vintage.

That is just my experience.
