And, to illustrate an even more extreme example, it's my wife Nancy that waits (if she's willing) for most of the group (me included) at the top of the hardest climbs! This is not an exaggeration, and I hope if I get hoots of disbelieving laughter that some of my NorCal mates will chime in to corroborate.

And to tie this back to the original subject matter, she is willing and able to do this on vintage steel as well as she does it on her modern-day beer can model. She just happens to prefer the modern stuff, indulges me my passion for vintage stuff, and figures that the time I spend "polishing bike parts" is time I don't spend in bars and pool halls. If she decides to go for a national Masters ITT win, it will be on an off-topic bicycle!

Harry, Wives are a topic where generalizations are rarely valid. You just have to wait for the right one to come riding by, preferably on lugged steel.

Near the end of the 40 mile ride at last years All British Cycle Event was the toughest hill of the day. At the top, several of us waited for my wife. Not surprising as she's 60 and carrying quite a few extra pounds. I mumbled some lame apology for the delay. The reaction from the other guys was almost universal; "Are you kidding? I'd love it if my wife would come out on these events."
