I'd say that most people consider 1973-1976 to be the "golden era" for the Raleigh Competition model MK2 (which was made from the lightest french parts, to challenge the Professional model). Many junior racers raced on the Raleigh Competition and you can read stories and see pictures on the web about it. I personally think the black/black paint schema, offset by the black cranks, hoods, and derailleur highlights, is very cool.
One thing you might consider doing is lightening it up even more ( maybe a silver-black MKS Sylvan pedal set, and if your budget allows ,a Ti B-17 saddle, plus new tubulars, all period correct in appearance if not full details. )
