Hi Art:

Yes, I'm sorry, I should have mentioned what a notable fellow Dr. Graves was . He made a huge impact on USA touring scene by encouraging so many to tour, esp. in Europe on fine mostly French bikes!

I was just under the strong impression, from long ago reading no doubt, that he was of moderate height, i.e., 5' 6" + - . Brian B. thinks that is perhap s not so, in which case I apologize...

That tandem is certainly a worthy bike and deserves to be saved from the enc roaching corrosion!

A simple Google search reveals that Dr. Clifford L. Graves practiced at 846 Prospect Street,La Jolla,CA 92037. He was the founder of the International Bicycle Touring Society in 1964 and wrote a self published book "My life on Two Wheels" in which he describes his escape from the advancing Germans on Decem ber 16,1944 at he Battle of the Bulge (where he served as division surgeon) on h is Bicycle! So he is quite part of cycling history, which adds a bit to this ra re bike. Art Link,San Antonio,TX,USA

The stem cap might give up the name of the original owner. It appears inscribed, but too difficult to make out in the auction photos.
