I hate to say it, but it is becoming mainstream. I was at the driving range (golf is taking over...) the other day and low and behold, I see 2 punky looking kids riding their bikes. What caught my attention was that they had track bars. On closer examination, they were riding fixed gear bikes. And this is not the first example in my area, which at first, I thought was very odd...

The best thing about the new keirin craze is that bicycle riding is now "cool", among the youngsters........something that never came out of the Lemond or Lance years. They have their own way of riding them, their own fashion and culture. No dork helmets needed, as skills and ability are emphasized. I am keeping my helmet on, and not trying a wheelie.

Check out these moves. Something I've never seen at the track.
