I can offer a datapoint here -- about 6 months ago, I bought a NOS Viscount bottom bracket spindle. Its original packaging was labeled "Tapered Axle", part number BYC-01368-C0-00, and was in fact tapered. I have no idea if they were made to match a Viscount crank, or if they later switched to a different crankset, while keeping the same press-fit bearing style
bottom bracket.
