Subject: [CR]Any guess on the identity of this bicycle?-Ebay outing

Ebay outing: 290195086734 BIN price of $700. The shape of the lugs look similar to Alex Singer. The owner removed the original crank and polished up the bits. Dropouts in the back are Campy. The frame is too small for me and I have no interest in acquiring the bike but do wish to know more about it.

Here is the seller's description.

Description Item Specifics Transportation Type : Bicycles Handmade classic vintage French road bike custom built in 1962 for an American customer. This machine is a beautiful example of the excellence and craftsmanship of french handmade bicycles. Unsure of the make but it appears closest to the bicycles made by C.N.C. in the sixties. As for a pedigree, there were so many custom builders in France at the time that i can't say but bikes of this period are popular with collectors and with a little research i'm sure the builder could be determined. I bought it from the second owner who told me it was custom built for the original owner in 1962 while in france and brought back to the states. What is certain is that it is a high quality frame made of the best materials of the day. If you have an idea who may have built this frame please let me know. It is made of columbus tubing with beautiful double taper seat stays and reynolds 531 oval to round fork blades, the camber of which has an arc that shows the hand of a truly fine craftsman. The lugs are prugnat with very long points, the head tube lugs and fork crown are chromed. Dropouts front and rear are campy and the rear are the long sort made in the early sixties. The construction is solid and well made , lugs are tapered and materials are excellent, only the best was used in cunstructing this frame, but less attention has been paid to the finish as was typical of CNC. These bikes were made for demanding riders and pro racers and emphasized performance and quality rather than flashy looks. The chrome has some peppering on the chainstay and fork crown but is otherwise very good. Seat tube is 53.5cm cc, and top tube is 54cm cc. The bike was equipped with cottered steal cranks when I aquired it though I have know way of knowing if this was original which would not be unusual for a racing bike of this era. It was also running on mismatched lightweight sew ups. I replaced the cranks with Campagnolo super record and a campy bottom bracket. The cranks have had the anodize removed only on the face and been polished to a mirror finish. Campy mismatched record and nuovo record peddles in great shape. Campy nuovo record front and rear deraileurs and shift levers. The bolts on the rear have been ground down for lightening but will not weather well because of it. Stem is a Pivo polished to mirror finish on french racing drops with very rare high polish levers similar to early Mafac. Brakes are Mafac, again mirror finished. These components are all in excellent condition and most better than when new, profesionally polished unlike any others you will see. The wheels are mavic rims laced to a campy low flange front and early shimano 600 rear for running a cassette. Cassette is a 7 speed 11 to 30 tooth, a nice wide range, and is comprised of individual cogs so that you can go even lower if you want. 32c Panaracer paselas, almost new. Seatpost is the very rare badged Simplex micro adjustable steel post, the badge being in excellent shape, the post has a few scrapes. Brooks profesional saddle, pre softened, is the most comfortable I have ridden. Of course it has all new cables, housing, bearings, grease, bar tape, etc. Everything is tuned and in excellent running condition, just built up. It handles perfectly. The frame has been repainted black and sage green with gold box lining and lug outlines in a traditional French manner. There are a few tiny chips in out of the way spots but nothing significant. Overall the bike is just short of concourse condition, but a machine like this should be ridden and not garaged, thats what it's been built for. Fitted with a pair of hammer peaned lefol or honjo fenders this bike will cut a fine figure and be able to tackle everything you want. This is a great deal on a completely unique handmade bicycle fully restored from bare metal down to the smallest details. It embodies the characteristics of responsive handling, comfort, reliability and shear beauty that have made many consider the machines of this era to be the epitome of quality french bicycle building.
