Hi Derek,

I grew up in Farmingdale, New York about a half mile from the stretch of railroad tracks where Mile-a-Minute Murphy did his thing. The MMM story was part of our school curriculum.

In 1999 the Village of Farmingdale asked my pal Craig Roberts to put on a criterium in town to commemorate the sentential of Muphy's historic ride. Craig had the clever idea of running a one mile prolog time trial on the course before the main event. I was the holder for the start of that race.

An interesting side bar is that George and Ricky Hincapie also grew up in Farmingdale.
