Subject: [CR]Re: booster plates

Regarding the Mafac booster plates. Are these the arched plate that attaches in front of the arms using the original bolts? I have a set I have had for at least 30 years. I never found the need to install them. I highly praise the old Mafac brakes. I prefer the Competition over the Racer for its metal bushings. The plastic can be worn with repeated heavy use. My reason for favoring the Mafac is the adjustability of the pads to meet the braking surface of the rim flatly. The older half-ball mounting was the absolute best for its even better variety of adjustment planes. In all honesty the Weinmann Vanquer in its various lengths is as good as any IMHO. but the Weinmann has no cache. Neither does the Mafac unless it is the more showy gold anodized version. I do recommend the Campy multi braided cables for their resistance to stretch. Tha is all for now, from my little corner of the world.

CRers,

Received and installed a set of Robert Broderick's Mafac Brake Booster Plat es. A very nice kit. Install's easily and looks and works great (on the stand, snow, ice and winter in general making road test problematic).

If anyone (other than me!) has any interest in a booster plate set for the Universal 61's too, let Robert know as he has a min. run number needed for production.

Thanks,
