Subject: [CR]Homemade tools in your toolbox

Greetings---

Fun topic. Learning a lot.

This tool is not home "made," but its use is improvised. May sound a little "nutty," but that's because it is! The nut pick---you know, the little shaft with the curved, pointed tip that you get with a set of nutcrackers.

I dip it in grease and pick up ball bearings with it for placement in hub and pedal cones, etc.

I use the tip as a wedge for holding cones in place while working the wrench on the opposite end of the spindle, and for fetching tanged washers and other pesky devils out of hubs and pedals.

I dip it in oil and work its tip to gently scrape off rust in tight places, such as the nooks and crannies of pedals. When worked delicately it leaves no trace.

I'm always finding some use for it in the shop.

Cheers,

Peter Jourdain Whitewater, Wisconsin US of A
