Date: Fri, 8 Feb 2008 08:52:57 EST From: Regarding shill bidding, I suppose I could fit the loose definition of that on occasion. I see something that is going cheap and while I don't really need it, I'll bid to see if I can snatch a deal. Am I unnecessarily running up the bid? Probably? I do win a few items like that so it isn't like I'm doing it solely to help the seller. I do it at the Cirque auction for charity too. Doesn't bother me a bit if I end up with the item, even when it is something that I say to myself, "I can't believe I bought that". Plus, if I can force the competition to spend more of their precious dollars on items I don't want, then they won't have as much money to spend on items that I really want. That's part of the game, right? To which Dale added:

Yeah, I'd guess even gpvb would agree "that" is "ok", based on their own past bidding practices. A couple years ago I noticed that every time I'd post a differing view to that particular CR member's ravings on CR, gpvb would magically place bids on any (every!) auction I was bidding on on squeeBay. Pretty amusing if you ask me, but who cares really? Life is too short to let putz whiners get ya down. Wish I could say, based on the content of that recent post, that it was "good" to see that member back. But when (out of the blue) they re-appear here with a snipe about a real, or imagined offense, especially after saying they'd NEVER return, then I I just can't do that.

Another case of the pot calling the kettle black, and another example of why (I think) CR people who want to bleat about their enamourment with eBay should start a user forum ON eBay. If it really IS "a game" (as Lou said) maybe an eBay user forum is a better playground for the petty, people-sniping crap.
