The C and Professional and other variations of 531 were mostly marketing ploys to indicate a lighter "racier" gauge dimension. Many of these designations occurred late the the CR time range. The fact is, 531 was always available in different gauges and make ups that could be specified by builders or manufacturers to achieve the desired end design.? Continental, esp. French, builders more often than English speaking builders, made direct reference to the exact gauge of tubing used in the bikes rather than "models" of tube sets.
