The I.D. of the friction washers is consistently larger on the one closer to the spring. IIRC the these washers have distinct part numbers in the catalogs. I think the slightly larger hole allows for a small radius between the shaft of the center bolt and the spring holder-thingy part. I recall noticing the diff in the hole sizes one time after I had completely disassembled a brake caliper. I had no idea which washer went where, so I called Campy USA and the guy there had no idea either... BUT, he went and grabbed a caliper, took it apart and checked, and called me back. Those were the days....

Any 6mm x 1.0 nut will work as a replacement for the dome nut, but nice chrome plated M6 acorn nuts are not very common. The genuine article is expensive and hard to find. Too many others in your position who want to replace corroded ones on their old brakes.
