Subject: [CR]Refinery Explosion in Big Spring, TX

I've received numerous emails from list members about the large refinery explosion and fire here in Big Spring, Texas on Monday, which was widely reported in the national media

In fact, I work at that refinery. The explosion occurred about 8:15 Monday morning, and refinery, Big Spring, and surrounding community firefighters battled the ensuing fire all day, finally extinguishing it in the late evening.

Miraculuosly, only one refinery employee received serious, but not life-threatening, burns, while there were four additional but minor injuries. About half of the refinery was seriously damaged, and the main office building where I worked was severely enough damaged that it must be demolished and replaced. The amazingly low number of injuries was in part due to the fact that most office workers were off for the President's Day holiday. The refinery staff is working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week to assess damage, clean up and repair the refinery so it can be restarted.

I wish to thank all the CR members for their expressions of concern. I assure everyone I'm very much alive and well, and none the worse for the experience.
