Tapping British BB threads to Italian is the emergency measure that's available if you strip your threads. And because the right-hand cup on Italian and French BBs is right-hand threaded, it can loosen up if not securely tightened

Best not to tap to Italian unless and until you have to. I understand that British BBs are somewhat easier to find these days than Italian ;-)
