Thank goodness there are list members like Charles Nighbor who are still willing to give a guy a good deal on an old bike. Thanks to him but I'm ready to give up on ebay ... until I need something badly ... again.

Good deal!!! One less competitor.......! Yes, we could rely on fellow list members, local bike enthusiasts and swap meets for all our biking needs, but Ebay puts up as many items as were at the Madison swap last mo. in what? One hour? 30 minutes? Plus I can peruse the offerings from the comfort of my home, without having to drive 3 hrs. or so up to Madison. Isn't Ebay as much about buying as it is about bidding? Instead of confronting a set price as encountered in a retail store, you're dealing with a moving target, the trajectory of which is unpredictable. In which case you can either bring out your heavy artillary and blast the competition to smithereens, or else you can try to finesse it with your .22 single shot rimfire Sharps. Take your pick.
