What size cotter pins are they? The came in sizes 8.5, 9.0 and 9.5mm.

According to Red Sutherlands, the 9.5mm is pretty much the standard now, and you can drill the arms with a 3/8" drill to convert smaller size co tters to 9.5.

It is not worth shimming them. Buy them in pairs, and file them the same as needed.
