Charles,

You are correct in many respects. I think this price is way too high for a standard type race bike. This bike is late 80's or early 90's (I actu ally havent seen the auction, so I may be thinking of a different bike) but it is a recent repaint of an original bike that just changed hands a few months ago. If the seller is in San Diego, then I know this bike.

The original cost of a frame like this back in the time of it's construc tion was around $2200 for the frame and fork. Bikes selling for $300 wou ld be back to the early 70's when Wizards were being built. A Wizard fra me was about $300 when new.

I'm currently on a mission to get my frame and paint backlong under cont rol. I have 5 frames under construction right now and I'm making good pr ogress on a number of things. Once summer comes, I'll have some extra he lp in the paint department. Framebuilding is the prime focus now. Constr uction will begin on my new workshop in a few weeks and once that is com pleted the pace will quicken even further.

BTW, if there are any listmembers living close to or in Portland Or, are a; I may need some help from the locals to pick up a car I just purchase d in Milwaukie, OR. It's a 1953 Bentley R Type and it's in A whole bunch of pieces. I'll need a conmany with a long low covered trailer to haul the car to San Diego. I will make a trip up there to oversee the loading , but maybe some tips from locals can help me find a good transportation company. Thanks to anyone who can help!

strikes me this is a tad high for the bike.

I don't doubt Brian will chime in if he hears about this thread.

I'm sure it's a very nice bike, but 2-4K seems more like it, to me,

solely because this is a simple Baylis. It would have taken him much

less time to make a bike like this than something with fancier lugs and

paint. Brian charges for time and difficulty. This frame would have

been quicker and easier to build than the sort of thing you usually see

from him.

So...that price is in the seller's head..it hasn't appreciated so much

quite yet!

'course, the fact that you might have to wait awhile for a Baylis of any

sort at this point may push the market value up.

Back in the 70s when Brian made a frame, didn't they usually sell for

300-500 bucks? That's my faint memory.
