Gitane did a black pantographed stem in 1988 (ITM) on their "Replica" models (butted 753 - KOF). They are rare, and sought after. I thought they looked great with the pearl-white frameset.

Something I've been wondering about, and I notice it on the images of this bike also: Why do many Italian bikes of this era have a black anodized stem ? Was this just 'fashionable' at the time? Myself, I much prefer silver an odized or polished stems and other components. Do not like at all the curre nt fad of flat black parts-yuck.
