Subject: [CR]WAS guess at the maker of nameless frame NOW DiNucci

I thought about Mark DiNucci when I first looked at the frame. It's hard to be sure, since I haven't seen that many DiNucci frames, but the lug/crown/shell work looks very similar to his work. It might be from Newlands/Strawberry, if that BB cut-out is a Strawberry thing. Some contributing factors here are that by '76 DiNucci was already building for Jim Merz, and I think the frame in discussion here is later than that. Probably early 80s, as Dale suggests. Maybe it's a later frame by DiNucci, and he just used that BB cut-out. Not sure when Merz went to Specialized, but I do know that DiNucci was recruited there by Merz sometime later. Maybe this is a DiNucci frame from this interim period, but the rear drop-out/stay detailing is certainly different than the DiNucci fashion I'm familiar with. Now I'm sort of back to thinking it might be a Strawberry. Interesting frame, to be sure.

Does anyone know when Merz went to Specialized? When DiNucci did? I have contact info for DiNucci, and I'll see what I can find out. Mark usually responds, but it usually takes quite a while.
