The widely accepted convention? dictates ONLY a gold medal?entitles the use of those bands (It's a big deal!), hence my original query!

So what entitles a builder to use the rainbow stripes on his frames, participation in the World Championship, or winning a medal? I would have thought the former should suffice, but is there a rule or convention?
