Am I incorrect in my supposition that, up until some point, it was not a big deal to put Olympic rings on a bicycle? Witness the referenced Witcombe, Ephgrave, and the faint, but unmistakable traces of the rings on the J.A. Holland that sits in my basement waiting for a sunny day. Weren't there rings on some versions/years of Paramounts?
Were there any rules regarding the usage? Could any maker slap them on their frames? Would it have been reserved for makers of bicycles that won a gold medal? Some medal? Entered in competition? Were there royalties involved?
I freely profess my ignorance, and I'm hoping someone can provide some insight into the practice.
