Subject: [CR]Re: '62 Schwinn Superior Help!

The '62 and '63 Superiors were right below the Paramount in the Schwinn lightweight lineup during those years. They were equipped with a mix of componentry including Huret derailleurs/shifters, Weinmann centerpull brakes, Normandy Luxe hubs laced to 27" Weinmann alloy rims, Brooks B15 saddle, Titan stem and I believe a GB handlebar. They were definitely a cut above the Varsinentals of the day. The frame is fillet brazed Chrome-Moly tubing and had chrome stays and a chrome band on the seat tube. The Superior, unlike the later Super Sports and Sierras did not have a brazed-on kickstand making it somewhat lighter and improving the aesthetics of the frame. I believe the one drawback of the frameset was the use of a one-piece crank that Schwinn seemed to favor. Nonetheless if it's in good condition and the price is reasonable it's probably worth buying. I'd be interested in knowing what you end up paying for the frame if you get it.
