It is a damn shame to see a classic bike mutilated, stripped or disfigured, in our minds anyway as the seller thinks the modifications scream originality. But a stereotype which profiles a specific demographic as the perpetrators of bike crimes is paranoid. Idiots come in different sizes, age and wear all types of apparel, not just tight jeans. The fixie group is not staying up late plotting against collectors. The biggest fans of classic bikes and their preservation are definitely on this list. But in my urban area where I live and ride, a close second is the fixie group.
