OK so I got this almost mint 1983 (or 81, I forget) Trek 970.

I could just blather on about the bike and how much I like it..

But I'm not conversant with the Nuovo Record rear derailleur. (Pat.84. is on it..) or whether there is an index shifter that can be affixed that would work with it.

Actually, I'm not sure if this bike should be hung on the wall 'as is" as an early Trek, or if I can mess with it. =============
