Jay Sexton asked:

JAY: Here is my dilemma. I've managed to get the first three cogs off a five speed Regina Oro freewheel, but not the last two. Are the last reverse threaded? HARVEY: Yup. The two innermost are left-threaded, and come off to the inside. There was a special VAR tool for gripping the body for pulling the last cogs.

JAY: The real problem is that despite all my careful efforts, the notches in the freewheel body peeled away like butter while attempting the remove it from a Campy hub. I thought that removing the cogs would allow me better access to the freewheel body, thus giving me another option for removal. I'm open to any tips or suggestions as to how to get the damm thing off. First time ever I have not been able to remove a freewheel. argghhh! HARVEY: I usually use a pin punch to remove the locking cone of the FW bearing set. Oh, it is left hand thread. As Kim Klakow observed, this may be easier with the axle set out of the way. Once the locking cone is out of the way, the rest of the FW cog assembly will fall off the bike. Remove the pawls, and it is pretty easy to grab the body in a vise and turn it off. Recycle the parts, and replace with one of them newfangled Suntour Perfect or Winner designs. :-) By the way, I have a small supply of complete, new, Regina bodies w/o cogs. If you're a real masochist, you can reassemble the FW with a new "inner" from one like this. It's what I do to move a whole set of cogs to a bunged body.
