Thanks for a great write up on the detective work surrounding Mme. Gambillon's bike - a very cool machine, this was the cure tube one, was'nt it? I had a conversation with Brett Horton on this very topic, not so long ago, and he brought up the parallel effort undertaken by those who collect baseball memorabilia, seeking to authenticate a particular jersey as authentic, as worn in a particular even by a famous player.

They will digitize photos, lay them out and compare each one to the artifact and attempt to get multiple, independent correlations of the item (jersey, bike, whatever) and then actually take measurements - Brett talked about the size of the font on the jersey, or the position of the buttons, etc. Jan, you have gone down exactly this same path with the authentication of this bike.

Thank you for sharing it !
