Mr. Rabbit is probably busy signing up again for a well known reason. Seriously, other than cosmetics, galvanized (zinc plated) spokes are probably superior to stainless or chrome plated. Cyclically tensioned structures (read spokes) are subject to various cracking mechanisms. Stainless and chromed spokes often start to crack after a certain life anyway, so why not use the more durable galvanized and replace them when they start to rust (if they rust)? I think a lot of money has been wasted on stainless spokes myself, but the world does not seem to agree.
