Thought everyone would enjoy seeing my current auction (for what is probably a pre-topic carbide bicycle lamp - sorry). A lot of detailed photos to view. These were still used long after battery powered bicycle lights were introduced. They emitted a VERY bright light - brighter than any other early 1900s technology such as oil or kerosene or later generators or early battery cells provided. Carbide lamps are still manufactured and used today, mainly for cave exploration.

These were the HID lights of their day. If you think your generator powered lamp or the flashlights mounted on the Rene Herse racks were bulky... look where it all began.

Enjoy!
