The seller actually says it was built for the Olympic trials, so he may not have actually gone to the Olympics. If it's done another way elsewhere, the trials were our way of picking a team for several years. The best riders at the trials won the slot on the team. I'm not sure how it's done now, but there's been lots of politics for at least the last 25 years or so.
Finding out who rode in the trials would be interesting, and is just the sort of research I mentioned a couple weeks ago.
