Subject: [CR]John Barry's Cirque pix

John Barry posted an album that must include every bike in the show! Including mine. Thanks, John, and nice job: Heavily slanted towards Sunday's event. The quality isn't the greatest, but if you'd wanted that, you should have seen Ken Toda. ;)

couple of notes about a couple of my bikes in his pix:

1) John includes a picture of the infamous Alenax, which has been mentioned by others writing about Cirque. It is best described as the offspring of illicit mating between a bike and a stair-stepper, with 305(?) mm cranks that just go up and down, and an actual mechanism that gives about 4 different leverage ratios. It is pleasant to steer, awful for actually riding fast, and almost all of the 20 - 30 folks who rode it came back with huge smiles: agreeing that this was a solution looking for a problem. They turn up on Craigs List here from time to time. It was worth a few bucks for the looks on peoples' faces. Other than years of dust, it is completely stock. I think. VERY low mileage. Duh.

2) My Peter Weigle frameset's finish has been altered only by a couple of scratches since I bought it several Cirques ago from Peter. It is not the only one that he fitted with an unusual spelling on the left side of the down tube, and it does bring smiles. Seriously, I love the bike, and really appreciate Peter's willingness to sell it to me. It was his personal bike. BTW, it really throws a left hook at efforts to date bikes. I think Peter built it about 1982, for a bike show. Since then, it has been repainted twice, had the rear brake bridge replaced, rear pannier mounts removed, front rack fabricated, and I assume a new stem. All before Peter sold it for the first time, to me, about 2005. No, it is not for sale. Thanks, Peter!
