Fred Dean's shop was in York Road a hundred yards or so from Wandsworth Town railway station.

They had a relatively successful racing team called "The Fred Dean team of Independants".

In 1960/61 as a kid of 13 or 14, I scrimped and saved my pocket money and did odd jobs to get enough to order my first

made to measure bike frame from him.

A white Reynolds 531 nineteen and a half inch frame with red lug lining.

They were unique in having the name decal emblazoned along the top tube, ranged left close to the

head tube, rather than on the seat tube.

I built it up with Campag Gran Sport components and a green nylon unica nitor saddle.

Two or three years later, having become a fashion and femmes obsessed 'Modernist' I sold it to help fund the purchase of a Vespa.
