>From the letters to the editor in the February 11, 1948 edition of the British magazine CYCLING:

A few months ago I was travelling in a car driven by the owner, a lady. In the course of conversation she found out that I cycled 12 ½ miles each way to work every day.

She remarked, "I also like a bit of push-biking."

I said, "Excuse me, madam, but that is a very offensive term as applied to the bicycle."

She was very much surprised to hear this, so I gave her an example to make clear my meaning.

I said, "Some time ago I read in an American magazine the term 'stink wagon' as applied to a motorcar. I presume from that, that I must be doing a bit of stink wagoning just now."

She laughed very heartily and said that she would never say push-biking again, so we finished all square and honour satisfied.
