[CR]Re: Bending Cottered Cranks (On Purpose!) -- 2nd Attempt (without Gmail rich text formatting)

(Example: Books:Ron Kitching)

Hi, David (et al.) --

I'm a newcomer to this list and this is my first post, so please be indulgent if I'm completely off base or commit any major gaffes.

It seems to me that the simplest and most elegant way to achieve greater clearance between your leg brace and the crank arm would be to use a pedal extender. A Google search for [ ~bicycle "pedal extenders" ] and an eBay search for [ pedal extenders ] should get you started.

The biggest problem I see is finding extenders with French threading. I tried doing a little sleuthing in French sites but got skunked. (It didn't help that I don't know the correct term for pedal extenders in French, or even if they exist as a concept in France. "Décaleur pédale" seems to be a different kind of adapter, possibly for increasing crank-arm length on kids' bikes.) If you simply must stick with French-threaded cranks and pedals, maybe Chris at http://www.velo-orange.com can hook you up or at least point you in the right direction.

I hope at least some of this was helpful.
