Every generation seems to agree that the restorations done by previous generations did more damage than good. At the same time, every generation seems to think they can do better.

The good part of this is that standards of restoration are improving all the time. The bad part is that even today's best efforts may be seen as a previous generation's errors in the future.

For those eager to restore, there are plenty of older restorations they can redo, and truly improve things with no risk of incurring the wrath of future generations.
