Well I note that the catalog list both 114 and a 118 axle for road, with an asterix noting the 118 as cyclocross. But I have a lot of Zeus cranks, and I've never seen a Zeus Criterium or 2000 English/French road BB with anything but a 118mm axle. I can't believe I've consistently had cyclocross BB's palmed off on me for the last 25 years. I wonder if they put the asterix on the wrong axles.

There is another strange thing about the catalog. If one believes it, the same length axle was used for each application for English/French BB's as for Italian. That would mean that the arms would sit nearer the cups on an Italian BB than on an English or French one. That's possible, but I don't remember any other major manufacturer doing it that way. Unless they used thin cups on Italian BB's and thick on English. But that's not my experience, plus that would probably mean indentical axles were used for English and Itailian, so then why give them different designations?

I'd be interested to hear the answer to this one also. A Zeus 2000 or Criterium uses a 118mm axle for English/French or 120mm for Italian, same as Stronglight and also TA, I believe. But that may just be because the Zeus and French BB's have thin cups. I don't know if the Zeus taper is more similar to Campy or to Stronglight. If the Zeus taper is compatible with Campy, then a Campy post-1977 NR double might work since it is 115.5mm (according to Bicycle Classics), while Zeus would have taken 116mm if they had used thick cups. Anyone know if the Zeus tapers are compatible with Campy or with Stronglight?
