Subject: [CR]Early 1980's Trek Question

Hello everybody,

I was pointed to the CR list in search for an answer to some inquiries about early 1980's Treks. Forgive the quantity of information, I just want to share what I've already found out so theat nobody else goes to the trouble to retrace my steps.

In 1983, the 970 and 170 models came in a 64cm size. As far as I can tell, 1983 is the only year they came in that large of a size. Problem is, the only geometry figures I can find are for the 58cm size. This is as much as http://www.vintage-trek.com was able to provide me with. I can make a guess at the geomtery using 62cm numbers from later models with similar geometry, but I'd really like to get the raw figures if I can. Mostly I'm interested in top tube length.

Why? I just acquired a Trek 760, and really like it. However, I am 6'5" with quite a long torso, so I am already looking for massively long stems to compensate. I noticed that in one year, the largest size in the 770 had a shorter seat tube than the 760, but a longer top tube. If the 970 or 170 are more akin to the 770, then I can allow myself to begin a most likely futile journey to find one of these bikes in a size 64cm. Either way, I will continue to enjoy my 760.

Thanks in advance for any help I can get!
