Subject: [CR]Spilled chain cleaner plus, and in addition Tubular rim glue remover

Last week sometime it was asked what the name of the old Tubular Rim Glue Remover, with the orange, black, and white label, that included the applicator in the can's lid, was. My long-empty cans in the basement (empty as in used & also just evaporated) say CARE Tubular Rim Glue Remover, made by Care Labs in Collegeville, PA. (I don't recall seeing an answer to this in later digests, but I imagine it may have been answered offline already.)

The current substitute, which is also what I would use for the slippery, squeaky rim asked about in the today's digest, is the solvent known as "Goof Off" (not as in solvent abuse promotion, but as in removing goof-ups like crayons on the newly painted wall...). I would follow-up with denatured alcohol after its use (although that may be belt & suspenders redundancy). What isn't redundant is my advice to 1. Use it OUTSIDE (not simply in a "ventilated area") & 2. Wear a respirator mask as well (& I don't mean just a dust mask - use eye protection, too). It is readily available @ big box hardware/building chains such as Menards, likely Home Depot, etc. in small cans & 1 gallon cans. Any sort of sticky glue residues can be scrubbed off with a stiff plastic bristled brush. (This also leads me to try TUFO rim tape instead of using glue.)
