Having studied this issue for a 1975 raleigh team pro, here are my observations (hopefully most of them are correct) about period-correct early (1973-5 era) super record parts ...

1. Seatpost. Shortie (130 mm) or long version, 2-bolt super record post. The first model has no ||||||| insertion line. The second version has an insertion line, but if you don't pull it all the up nobody will know.

there are many nuovo record posts floating around that people have tried to flute. These are thicker (3mm) vs. super record (2.4mm), and the flutes are semicircular on home-made fluting, whereas true super records taper like a well-executed canoe. Also, super record (and superleggera, the predecessor) posts have a hole through the pivots that hold the cradles, to save weight. If you find all these features and the post has a world logo, then it's a home-fluted superleggera (pre-73) seatpost, just as light as super record...

2. Front derailleur. Campagnolo record initially, identical to what shipped with nuovo record grouppos. In the 2nd generation they anodized the clamping area black.

3. Rear derailleur. Titanium pivot bolts. It was said for a short time in 1977 campagnolo shipped aluminum pivot bolts, and we have seen several instances of these on the CR mailing list. If the rivets are not solid aluminum you probably have a modified franken-derailleur.

4. Bottom bracket. The original bottom bracket looked just like nuovo record, 112.5 mm and the aluminum cups have a flat profile on the ends. As these were hollow, there were many of these that broke. The second generation used a solid spindle and it must have been 112.5 mm.

CPSC changes to the derailleur in 1977 caused the spindle to grow from 112.5 mm to 114.5 mm, creating a 3rd generation.

5. Crankset. There was no difference in crank arms between NR and SR, but be careful not to use a pre-77 crank with a post-77 front derailleur or you'll scrape a groove in the crank. In the early days the rings and chainring bolts should both say PATENT.

6. Headset. As far as I know there were never any changes to super record headsets ?? At least campy got one component right !!!

7. Pedals. Rumor has it that the super record pedals have a special spindle that does not interchange with record or superleggera.

8. Hubs. It was said that campagnolo advertised titanium spindles on super record hubs, but got cold feet and always shipped hubs with steel spindles.
