Subject: [CR]Vintage Track Bike Day - International Velodrome @ Bloomer Park, Rochester, MI

It has been decided locally that a vintage track bike outing at Detroit's only velodrome is best held on a Saturday at 10:00 am, which is when they offer their FREE beginner's class. (They also offer it on Monday evenings, which were almost unanimously voted down). Now, we need only decide upon WHICH Saturday to go. Therefore, I have selected four potential dates, that are not too far in the future.

This FIRST TIME event is open to all Bikelist (CR, BOB, Fixed Gear, etc.) list members, as well as Bike Forums members, those of a couple of local vintage ride groups DVBM and "Vintage Thursdays", and anyone else interested in old steel track or road bikes. Please forward this email, as desired. Those who desire to attend the event are asked to rate, and email me their preferences of which day, from most desired to least desired. After all votes are in, we'll set it for the highest ranked day, and the second most popular can be our rain date (given that it is after the first, of course). I'll send out emails promptly following the end of the voting flurry and tallying, to let everyone know when it will be. This way, we'll hope to get the best turnout possible.

Potential days for meeting at the track are: Saturday, August 30th, 10:00 am (Labor Day weekend) Saturday, September 6th, 10:00 am Saturday, September 13th, 10:00 am Saturday, September 20th, 10:00 am

Now about the bikes: Vintage steel track bikes are welcomed and encouraged to be ridden, but are not necessary ... any true track bike is great. The track allows NO quick releases, brake calipers or levers, and no road wheel conversions ... hubs must have a reverse threaded lockring. If you don't own a track bike, modern rentals are inexpensively available at the track. If you don't want to ride the track, then you need only pay for your parking in order to share good company with the rest. Actual riding is only an option, it is not a requirement!

First use and the New Rider 101 Class are free to anyone. Parking is about $5, and return uses are $10/day, or $100/season (which is nearly over). I THINK the first rental may be free too, but I have to confirm that ... don't hold me to it yet!

The International Velodrome at Bloomer Park is located at the north end of John R. Road, in Rochester, MI. Please do a Google search for the park if you need further directions.

Ciao, Mark Agree Southfield MI USA
