Subject: [CR]Mudguard stay end caps?

I've bought a few pairs of classic Bluemels mudguards, one white pair of which I've just installed on the French Blue (Opaque Blue in Schwinnspeak) 1973 Schwinn Sports Tourer on which I've been commuting the last couple of weeks. The mudguards came with the mounting hardware, except that they don't have the little plastic end caps for the stays. The stay ends can be pretty sharp, and are a potential hazzard in a crash, so its probably best to cap them somehow.

I believe in past threads some plastic caps available at auto supply stores were suggested as suitable for caps on the "feet" of Campy steel pump heads. The stay end caps would need to be a bit smaller than that. Anyone know of any small plastic caps available at auto parts or hardward stores that would work for stay end caps, and what such items would be called?
