Subject: [CR]1982 Campy Shifters

Manfred,

The shifters with the engraved lettering, as opposed to the raised le ttering, were available by 1982.  The 1982 "Olympic" catalog shows the ne wer shifter.  I think this shifter was introduced not long before 198 2, but I'm not sure exactly when it was first available.  If anyone c an recall the earliest availability of the newer lever, I'd be very interes ted to hear about it.

The 1982 catalog also depicts the older version of some of the shifters, and Campy may well have still been shipping old stock at this time, particu larly if you were buying some odd vaiant, such as a right-side-only c lamp-on.

Botttom line: a totally up-to-the-minute 1982 bike would have the newer s hifters, but plenty of the older shifters were in still use, in dealer st ock, and possibly even being shipped by Campy at that time.

Would the correct shifters for a 1982 Campy SR grouppo be the ones with the convex or the concave letters?  If they are the ones with convex letters a nd are braze on, should they use the nylon friction plates or the metal f riction washer?  I tried to look at the 1982 Campy catalog on Campyonly b ut it was not clear to me from that source as the clamp on version shows the

friction washer.  Thanks in advance for the help.
