Robic Sans Casque
Rest day, Pau, 11 July 1949. While many riders enjoyed their rest day in Pau, Jean Robic was scouting the next-day's mountain ascents - Aubisque, Tourmalet, Aspin, and Peysourde. The extra work paid-off with a stage win the next day in Luchon.
Here we see Robic climbing l'Aubisque, a rare image of him riding sans
helmet. Note the informal attire - sleeveless undershirt, tourist
shorts, no gloves or cap. Even "incognito" he's easy to recognize.
