Up for sale is the 650b Mark Nobilette showbike that not only is a fantastic rider, but was instrumental in the formation of Rene Herse Bicycles. It was dispayed "naked" at the North American Handmade Show, and painted at the Cirque. The frame is 60cm c to top of the color with a 57cm cc top tube. This frame is designed for someone who rides a 57cm to top race bike but wants a "randonneur" fit. It has clearance for 35mm tires with fenders, has a Rene Herse style rack with two arms for lights, stainless lugs specially cut headlugs, and stainless crown. The seatlug and bottom bracked have a very understated and elegant break-away system unique to Mark Nobilette. The frame rides wonderfully well. It is stiff but not harsh. It is increadibly stable, and is a blast either on the road or on modest dirt. Paint is a dark purple powdercoat. Frame has been ridden and not babied. But it probably only has 3 to 4 thousand miles on it and was never crashed or compromised in any way. Only frame issue is minor; chain rub on the right chainstay that has scraped into the metal but does not look to be serious. Paint is still quite nice overall, but there are blems, most notably a couple of deeper scratches on the top of the top tube by the seatcluster. Berthoud 50mm fenders should be ideal (not what I used). Fenderlines are not as optimal as they should be, but that is a cosmetic issue. Front rack attaches to the Cantilevers. I cannot express how much I enjoyed riding this frame. While it is not a super-lively frame, I found it super stable, extremely comfortable, and just a joy to ride. I loved being able to go riding with friends at a fast pace on the road (OK, fast for me), and then be able to peel off and do dirt. A new frame like this would cost about $4,500 I believe. This one is offered (as frame/fork/rack) at $2,000. It is hard to imagine getting more framebuilding talent and value for this price. Please email or call the shop at (303) 284-9721 for more info. I should have some photos available to forward a bit later to SERIOUS BUYERS. Let me know if interested. Mike Kone in Boulder CO USA, Rene Herse Bicycles Inc.
