I can not provide a production date but to my knowledge the reason for this ist Simplex licensing different manufacturerers in Europe to produce their shifting gear. There are also Simplex shifters and rear mechs around marked "D" for being made in Germany (Deutschland). The italiean omes should be marked "I" if I am not wrong. I have seen a couple of these. The german licensee was PWB - Päzisionswerke Bielefeld. I have a wooden spare parts cabinent clearly mrked Simplex and PWB - I got this off ebay for the horrible sum of 1 Euro, since it was advertised in the wrong category. It werves me well im my living room for stashing all those little bits like cuff-links, watches and also some cycling related parts.
