It is not easy to "assess" mortality, and impossible to assess immortality. What will be valued by society in future is almost futile to guess, and what will happens with one's bicycle collection once it falls into other hands equally difficult. Whatever "sentimental" value a cycle my have to its owner, this value will dissipate quickly in other hands. Whether a bicycle collection could be entailed without difficulty I doubt, and since few, if any museums have bicycle collections, it might be prudent simply to sell one's collection, since it will be easier for a collector to assess its current value, and know how to dispose of it, than most that stand to inherit it. While another collector will be very likely to enjoy a good vintage bike, most bike collectors' relatives will be happy with fresh money. This may be a pessimistic assessment of the situation, but I believe it to be a realistic one.
