Subject: [CR]WTB Shimano 600 rear hub

I am currently cleaning up a Trek 710 that I bought new in 1980. It has been hanging in storage since 1987, and is in very clean condition. I was nearly finished with the cleaning process, and was planning on taking numerous photos later today.

Unfortunately, when I removed the Suntour Ultra-6 freewheel, and disassembled the bearings, I discovered that the axel was cracked. It is a Shimano 600 hub, with the date codes of E A, which I gather means it was manufactured in January 1980.

So, I need to replace the axel, and at least the outer bearing cones, which have some roughness. The inner cones, and the hubs themselves are still in good condition.

I'm guessing that I won't be able to find just the axels and bearing cones, but would certainly consider buying the whole hub, and even a wheel assembly if necessary. If I can't locate replacement parts, I may try to have a local machine shop duplicate the parts.

Best Regards,

Trek 710 (the dealer called it a 715 with their O5 component group)

I'm the original owner, and still have all of the purchase documents

It's even still under warranty :-) (but I doubt the warranty will do me much good for this item)
