Hilary is selling the Carter on my behalf. When I bought it, it came wit h mis-matched wheels, which were, in any case, scrap. It has origina l documentation, including various invoices on Carter's letterhead, p lus one on the Selbach letterhead. Carter bought Selbach in the late 1930' s, and I'm wondering whether the Selbach currently on eBay MAY be a Cart er Selbach, since the serial number suggests that it may date from 1948 , and the lining on the frame is very similar in pattern to the silver p ainted and lined panels on my Carter. One of the original invoices is for a pair of wheels, presumably an upgra de two years after original purchase (the invoice dates to 1948), to Dunl op LA alloy rims on Harden hubs. I borrowed wheels from another of my bike s when riding the Carter, and found the Resilion brakes very "spongy" in feel, but nevertheless effective. The brake blocks are the rare red ones for alloy rims. Frame angles are 73 head and 71 seat, quite common at t hat time.
It's been carefully cleaned, stripped, greased and serviced, and then protected with an overall coating of clean oil, applied with cotton wool - the traditional "oily rag" finish, but somewhat more gentle. I left t he original handlebar tape, since I think it adds to the period look of t he machine.
