Subject: [CR]Fernando Cuevas's kidney, and Ebay outing: 2 Cuevas bikes

Fernando Cuevas, the grandson of CR's beloved, late Francisco Cuevas, needs a kidney transplant, and evidently it is serious. We talk about the passing of our bicycle brethren when it occurs, and often wish we could have done more to see or get to know them, or even to help. Looks like Fernando needs some help now, and I thought the List should be made aware of that.

Here is a link to the Cuevas devoted album on Wool Jersey, and incidentally, anyone with WJ registration can post additions to the album. Fernando is imbedded in the cycling scene, and in the photo albums:

There are currently two Cuevas bicycles being offered on Ebay by Mike Fraysse Sports, on behalf of Fernando:

Vintage Cuevas Road Bicycle w/ Campagnolo Super Record Ebay item number 320303572818

Vintage Cuevas Road Bicycle w/ Campagnolo COMPLETE RARE Ebay item number 320306114260

The auction text of the latter bike cited above, says it is the very last frame Francisco made before retiring, and that he made it for grandson Fernando's graduation gift. That's kinda cool stuff! The bikes are too big for my legs, and for my wallet, but my heart goes out despite my inability to help. So, if any of you guys can swing it, these bikes would be great buys ... both for you, and for Mr. Cuevas. We all know the current times are financially affecting some more than others, but this dear member of an entire "Keeper of the Flame" family, needs help.

Here is the pertinent info, copied from the auction listing:

Description This listing is for a spectacular vintage Cuevas complete road bicycle. This bike was made by the legendary Francisco Cuevas for his grandson, Fernando. It was the very last frame Francisco ever made before he retired back to his birthplace of Spain. This frame was a graduation present to Fernando, and is only being sold because Fernando is in desperate need of a kidney transplant. He is presently receiving dialysis three times a week and sentiment can only go so far. He feels that his grandfather, who has since passed away, would understand. This magnificent bicycle comes with all of the Francisco Cuevas signature features: hand-cut lugs, bottom bracket, dropouts, fork crown cross, etc. It is in pristine condition, coming with a Campagnolo Chorus 9-speed group with carbon shifters, Easton carbon seat post, genuine vintage San Marco Rolls saddle, Gipiemme wheels, and Modolo bar and stem. The frame measures 61cm center-to-center seat tube, 63cm center-to-top, with a 57cm center-to-center top tube. If you are looking for a truly beautiful work of art, and want to help a wonderful individual who has dedicated his life to junior development, producing many world-class juniors (some of whom are presently in the European professional peloton), now is your opportunity. Not only are you getting a spectacular one-of-a-kind classic bicycle in perfect condition, but you will also be helping to save a life.
