"MSS.328/N25/7 Photographs of Evelyn Hamilton, champion woman cyclist and owner of a bicycle shop at Streatham c. 1930s-?1980s 134 photographs
Evelyn Hamilton (later Mrs E. Helson) and councilor of Swaffham, started competitive cycling in 1926 as an amateur, winning the 1931 cup for a half mile sprint race at London's Stamford Bridge. Later she turned to endurance races, the climax of her career being a 100 day race in which she covered 12,800 miles. She also appeared for Gracie Fields in a biking scene in the film "Sing as you go". Away from competitive racing, she ran a bike shop in Streatham, where she constructed bikes for the professional riders of the day."
Definitely an interesting story 12,800 miles in 100 days. Move over Lon Haldeman.
